Another beautiful day in Paradise. Navy’s starting to adjust to small town life. He’s digging his feet in, placing his roots. Wondering what’ll happen next. For the moment, he’s granted a rare opportunity to kick his feet up. Relax. Simply watch the horizon. Till his little corner of Hoenn. Bask in the momentary praise of the people who see him as a hero.[break][break]

You’re only as good as your last gig. If nothing big happens, he’ll end up just another fixture of the place. No hero, but another mere bystander. Navy can’t say he minds. The populace seem a bit disheartened by the fact they can’t watch him battle when people challenge his gym, but that’s alright. What they don’t know won’t hurt them.[break][break]

A key jingles in Navy’s pocket. It sings a happy little tune. Klefki is a cute little thing. When Navy received this key from Elise’s cousin Remiel, he didn’t know what to make of the thing. It’s helped him out immensely in his job as an investigator. That, he can’t deny.[break][break]

Oddly, his mind turns to . He wonders how she’s doing as he walks up and down the beach. It’s been a hot minute since she’s wandered into his life. Not since Josh decided to spill the beans on their shared past. That’ll make things awkward, but…[break][break]

Or at least, that's how her very own experiences have shaped her mindset to be. There is no happiness that can last forever, no peace that will find a home to nestle in her heart. All that she's left with is love - Fragile and weak as she tries to love whatever she is handed, whatever she may stumble upon and pray to one day fix. The little things, the beautiful fragments that may one day burn up in smoke.[break][break]

It scares her how easily she can imagine Dewford in flames. Broken window shards line the streets, vivid screams echoing in her ears as a viscous red paints the endless horizons. It's so close to realisation, a bitter possibility that could have happened if Rocket had simply prioritised it over their ventures in the rift.[break][break]

A tap against her wrist causes her picture to distort, her fingers pulled apart as the sight it once framed now connects back with reality.[break][break]

"Be careful, yeah Cait?" Comes the offhanded worried remark, answered by a rather excitable Eevee that sways and tumbles upon Reiner's head. Cait barks, earning a soft grunt from the Luxray as he tries to readjust the little one's balance with his tail. And a smile will tug at her lips at the very sight, a hand shoved into her pocket quick to pull out her phone.[break][break]

And who should photobomb this happy scene but the great Sheriff of Dewford himself. Turning just in time to see the camera, he gives a confused, befuddled look before finally realizing who he’s seeing. Eris, in the flesh, down in the town again. With her, Reiner, by now an old friend in his own right, and an unfamiliar creature.[break][break]
No, not just any creature. An Eevee. One of the most sought-after Pokemon in the world. Its beautiful brown fur and energetic attitude capture the hearts of the masses. Someone else, long ago, used to dream about capturing an Eevee. He dreamed of evolving it into a Sylveon, or maybe an Umbreon.[break][break]
“Hey, Eris.” The Sheriff offers her with a smile. People spy him from across the street and wave. Just a pair of hipster kids who took to wearing caps after seeing wear hers around him all the time. Despite being utterly misanthropic to people her own age, she’s turned into quite the trendsetter among the teens of the town.[break][break]
“Cait your little friend here? Hey, Reiner. Keepin’ the little heroine safe, I see.” He teases the Luxray while twirling Klefki by its key ring. Contrary to what one might expect, the little key is enjoying this quite a bit. An almost imperceptible ‘wooooooo’ is heard as the key twirls.

And though it might take her a minute to understand what she looks at, she'll eventually link the pixels to reality as she looks up to a smiling .[break][break]

"Navy?" Her greeting falls short unlike most other days, her feet shifting uneasily as she tries to pull her hood up and avoid meeting the gaze of passersby. On the other hand, Cait is a bundle of joy that squeaks at Navy much to Reiner's annoyance. But the Luxray will simply do as he's always done, making sure that the little Eevee doesn't take a horrible tumble as he grunts at the man for his tease.[break][break]

Once those teens slip away, Eris seems to let go of a breath she didn't even know she'd been holding. And she'll reach out for the Eevee, carefully lifting her up for Navy to take a closer look (only to earn a disgruntled snort from Reiner as he paws the ground).[break][break]

"Cait's cute, isn't she? And she's real special too!"[break][break]

With the words serving as her prompt, Cait begins to squirm, her fur bristling a little as striking blue patterns paint themselves across her coat. Decorated much like how one would trace the lines between the stars of a constellation, the precious Illumina trait never ceases to amaze her with its strange beauty.[break][break]

"Betcha never seen anything like this before!"

It’s his turn to look the part of a child, eyes wide and starry. He’s never seen anything like this in his life. The Eevee glows and Navy’s gunmetal eyes seem to glow with the dark blue luster of a night sky.[break][break]
Luckily, no one around them seems to pay that much mind. They’re too busy pointing at Navy before moving on. He’ll never get used to being ‘famous’ – if you can even call it that. He wonders how Kyle handles it, considering the man must get it so much worse.[break][break]
“Arceus, that’s gotta be the best light show I’ve ever seen.” He admits. Without even realizing it, his Klefki has slipped off his finger. Floating in the air, he drifts to Eris and rests inside her hood.[break][break]
“Uh, probably should ask…what brings you down here to Dewford today? Come to see our wonderful, historic beaches?”

“Heh. That sounds nice. My grandparents used to order Gabe n’ me a pizza on Fridays, back when they were around. Pizza’s the same as most other food. It’s not the food itself that’s great, it’s the people you share it with and the fun you have while eating.”[break][break]
Soon enough, they’re outside of the arcade Navy has been preaching. It’s certainly retro. Outside, in neon dulled by the midday sun, is a flexing Machamp holding several Voltorbs in his hand. Inside, it’s like stepping through a space/time distortion. They’re back in another time. Hipsters line every machine. Girls on rollerblades swerve about, serving pizza on trays along with lavish servings of soda and other goods.[break][break]
“One large pizza!” Navy says as the crowd recognizes the Sheriff. Excited, one of Navy’s Pokemon pops out of his ball. Kizashi, a newborn Totodile, product of a love affair between a Cyclizar and a Feraligatr. It jumps up and down, speaking in the language of his people. Turning and looking back at Eris, the little blue alligator waves.[break][break]
“Oh, this is Kizashi, by the way. One of my new partners in crime.” And to him goes the first piece of pizza when it’s sat down at their table.[break][break]
“What game d’you wanna check out first, l’il hero?” He asks Eris while Kizashi coos in admiration of Cait’s illuminating fur.

Kizashi and Cait engage in a battle for the ages. Each inch is hard fought between the two of them. He grunts as he tries to stand up on his tip-toes that tiny bit higher. Pointing his snout up in the air, he waves his little arms as if that gives him some advantage. Thankfully, he has a tail. It helps balance him. Otherwise, the newborn would fall.[break][break]
He’s remarkably spry for a newborn, Navy will give him that.[break][break]
“Never too young to commit a crime, so long as you can get away with it.” He winks at her, giving her advice he never would’ve given Gabe. “We might have ourselves a mastermind on our hand.” Kizashi shoves a whole slice into his mouth, having grown bored of his game with Cait.[break][break]
Klefki jingles in the background, as if to officiate their match. It raises a little key in Cait’s direction, indicating she is the winner of whatever imagined game they are both playing. Kizashi slumps to the ground in shame, sharing his trainer’s dramatic flair.[break][break]
“This one right here. Street Brawler. Easy.” Putting his soda down, he points at the arcade machine. There’s room for two players. Eris is just tall enough to not need a box, too. “I always go with Scrafty. If you want one that’s beginner friendly, I say pick Ryo – one of the two Urshifu guys.” He points at the red Urshifu, representing single strike style. “Kenny’s good too if you want one that fights like Shuwen.” A blue bear salutes the screen.
